Privacy sensitive data and use Google in trouble in Germany
The German government is preparing an offensive against Google Analytics, the system used by 1.8 million sites in Germany - and quite common in Italy - to measure its traffic online. This was stated by the newspaper Die Zeit online, according to which federal authorities could even get to impose fines of up to € 50 thousand for the sites that they continue to use the Google.
In the target of the federal and the Länder that are responsible for data protection of the privacy of citizens, is over the tool that collects information about users browsing the Internet. According to its use would be contrary to German law, even if you do not have defined the measures to be taken to encourage site managers to abandon it.
Two objections to Analytics. First, the system combining the data from use of Sites users with other information collected through Google services, such as Gmail, share them with third parties, for failing to provide the user the ability to withhold consent. The fear of authority is that Google is able to derive the profiles of millions of Internet users visited sites by rebuilding their interests, their lifestyle, habits, health conditions. This ID card would also be connected to an IP address, then - in short, say the authorities guarantee - to an individual.
Secondly, they are concerned that the information is stored by Google on servers located on American soil. This would violate the law German requirements. For
Meyerdierks responsible for the safety of data for Google in Germany, disputes this reading. The Safe Harbor Agreement between the EU and the U.S., says poravoce ensures that data is stored in an appropriate manner. As for profiling, the ability for users to delete cookies, small pieces of code that remain on your computer when surfing the internet allowing our traceability, putting them safe from unwanted profiling. That would in any case anonymous.
is expected that the German federal and state authorities to take a final decision within a week. Analytcs is one of the most used by Google's free webmaster.
